BNL Coach Recap/Highlights 9/19

BNL Modified Volleyball vs Mechanicville
The BNL Modified Girls Volleyball team defeated Mechanicville in 2 straight matches on 9/19. Winning 25-18 and 25-15. The team played a third set and won 25-15. The high scorer of the night was Isabella Ray with 5 service aces.

BNL Varsity Volleyball vs Mechanicville
The BNL Varsity Girls Volleyball team played a great match against Mechanicville at home on 9/19. The BNL team fought hard, losing two of the games by only 2 points. They continue to work hard at practice and they are showing improvement with every match. The offense was led by Madison Chubb with 9 points and 3 kills, Ciarra Jager with 8 points and 6 kills, and Sage Rogers with 6 points. – Coach Slaver and Coach Corsey

BNL JV Soccer vs. Cambridge/Salem 
The BNL Boys JV Soccer team faced a strong Cambridge/Salem team and played a feisty game but were unable to defeat them. Jack Healy and Gabe Smith combined in goal to make 16 saves. Joseph Zvirzdin was able to convert a pass from our own defensive end into a breakaway to score BNL’s lone goal. Markel Popov and Tyler Webster had 8 shots on goal. Illness left the team with only 11 members, and they all played without complaint and with a strong spirit of support for each other through some tough play. Coach Burhans complemented the players for playing all 80 minutes without giving in to tiredness or negative thoughts. BNL was well represented on the field. -Coach Burhans and Coach Crimmel

BNL Varsity Soccer vs. Cambridge/Salem 
The BNL Varsity Soccer team hosted Cambridge/Salem on 9/19, it was a tight game for all 80 mins. BNL scored first when Lukas Zuke found Logan Healy in the box. Cambridge/Salam would answer before the half ended. The second half was neck and neck. Logan Healy converted a penalty kick late in the half to take a 2-1 lead. BNL goalie Tyler Shuhart stopped a penalty at the end of the game to preserve the win, Shuhart finished the game with 12 saves. -Coach Burhans and Coach Derosia

BNL Coach Recaps and Highlights 9/20

BNL Girls Varsity Soccer vs Cambridge 9/20
The BNL Girls Varsity Soccer team brought their overall record to 2-2 with a 4-1 win over Cambridge yesterday. BNL started the game intensely and grew more comfortable as the half went on. After some early shots and corners for Cambridge, BNL opened the scoring after the ball was dropped to Lizzy Hunt outside the 18-yard box, who took a shot that went into the upper corner of the goal to make it 1-0. After the halftime break, BNL were able to add another, when Lizzy Hunt took a free kick from the right side of the field; Riley Robertson flicked the ball with her head to the back post for Jessica Bosso to put in an easy finish. Cambridge pulled one back midway through the second after a scramble in front of the net. BNL was able to ice the game shortly after however, when Lizzy Hunt put in her second goal of the game from just inside the penalty area. Haylee Jones opened her scoring for the season with a shot from distance in the last five minutes to end a strong performance for BNL. Becca Madsen showed very strong play and reactions in goal, coming up with eleven key saves throughout the game. – Coach Kanofsky

BNL Coach Recap/Highlight 9/21

BNL Modified Volleyball vs. Hoosic Valley 9/21
Both BNL Mountain Lions Modified Volleyball teams took on Hoosic Valley Thursday night, with the B team winning their first game of the season in 2 straight sets by scores of 25 – 21 and then 25-16, respectively. Team captain Lydia Morgan (Berlin) had 9 service points and Isabella Ray (Berlin) added another 10 points. The A team dropped their first set 25-13, then rallied back to win the 2nd set 28-26 but ultimately lost the match 2 sets to 1, dropping the third set 25-17. Team captains Arianna Degroff and Vincenza Deschamps, both from New Lebanon, put up an impressive 14 points and 6 points respectively. Both teams look to improve this week as they get ready to travel to Tamarac next Wednesday to battle the Bengals. – Coach Olson and Coach Yerdon

BNL Varsity Volleyball vs. Hoosic Valley 9/21
The BNL Mountain Lions Varsity Volleyball battled Hoosic Valley at their court last night losing very close matches 24-26, 18-25 and 23-25. Lexi Rifenburg had 10 points, 7 digs and 13 assists; Ciarra Jager had 4 points, 10 kills and 9 digs, and Madison Chub and Anna Lawless each had 7 points. BNL Cross Country Senior Night Recap and Highlights 9/26

The BNL Cross Country team had our one and only home meet of the season this past Tuesday 9/26. We were extremely grateful for the weather and good conditions as we honored our seniors. The boys had a phenomenal showing with Lance Schroeder leading the pack with a time of 19:06 placing him 4th overall of the runners who ran. He was followed by John Savaria who placed 5th with a time of 19:22, Seth Hendricks in 6th place timed at 19:28, Nate Hendricks in 8th place with a time of 20:13, Aidan Van Dyk in 9th with a time of 20:19, Richard Bachner in 15th with a time of 22:00, Eben Donohue in 18th timing at 23:28, Finn Buckenroth in 19th coming in at 23:35, and Ryan Wu in 23rd coming in at 24:39.Our Girls worked on personal goals and improved as well! We had 3 runners, which unfortunately does not allow us to place but they all ran great times. Elaine Savaria came in 5th overall with a time of 24:08, followed by Vivian Whelan at 6th place with a time of 25:21, and Neema Muturi who placed 9th coming in at 27:15.

The boys were able to score and ended up beating out Mechanicville, Hoosic Valley, and Tamarac/Hoosick Falls with no less than an 11 point difference. Scores are as follows:

BNL – 25 Hoosic Valley – 36
BNL – 15 Mechanicville – 46
BNL – 22 Tamarac/Hoosick Falls – 33

The BNL Modified and Varsity Cross Country teams took to their home course at the Berlin Middle High School on Tuesday night. After walking the visiting teams through the strenuous course the Varsity team celebrated their seniors. Varsity Coach DeCarciofolo and Coach DeLuca introduced this year’s five seniors and presented flowers and a gift courtesy of the BNL Booster Club to their families.

BNL Girls Varsity Volleyball Coach Recap 9/27
The BNL Girls Varsity Volleyball played their best match of the season, fighting hard and defeating Tamarac at home in New Lebanon: 25-15, 25-19, 10-25, 23-25 and 15-13. Ciarra Jager led the attack at the net with 13 kills, 6 digs and 10 points! Sage Rogers had an amazing 16 points, 1 kill and 5 digs. Lexi Rifenburgh had 9 points, 2 kills and 16 assists, Anna Lawless contributed with 7 points and Madison Chubb contributed 5 points. These girls were on fire. The BNL JV Girls Volleyball team played 3 really tight games, winning the first game 25-18 but just coming up a little short in games 2 and 3, 26-28 and 22-25. The team continues to show more and more improvement with every match and they are working really hard. The offense was led by Layla Yerdon scoring 10 points with 2 kills and 2 assists; Julia Stickles scored 7 points with 3 kills, Cadence Ward had 5 points, Jolie Garcia 6 points and Holly and Izzy contributed 5 and 3 points. – Coach VanVorst

BNL JV Girls Soccer Coach Recap 9/28
Congratulations to the BNL JV Girls Soccer team for getting their first win over Emma Willard 5-0 last night! The girls have been working so hard all week to prepare for this, and had the majority of possession throughout the game. Goals were contributed by Madison Prusky, Celia Bautista, Lilly Meyers, and Anna Hart. As the game went on, the girls relied on their passing and ball skills to move the ball quicker and quicker into the Emma Willard side of the field. Charlie Young had a standout night in goal, keeping the clean sheet. Congrats to Coach Feit and the whole team for a very solid performance! -Coach Kanofsky
