BNL Wrestling vs Watervliet & Taconic Hills Coach Recap 12/7

You can’t have a closer Wrestling match. BNL Boys Varsity Wrestling lost on criteria to Watervliet tonight after tying 36-36 during regular wrestling. After all the wrestling was done, the score stood at 36-36. The match went to a list of criteria to determine the winner. Even the referee couldn’t remember what it would come down to, and had to retrieve the rule book from his truck. Criteria #6 is who had the fewer number of forfeits. We have 4 holes in our lineup and Watervliet has only 3. So they carried the match 36-37.
Berlin has no lightweight wrestlers so, we started out the match forfeiting weights 101, 108, 116 & 124, making the score 0-18 with a double forfeit at 101. Losses at 131 & 145 and picking up a forfeit at 138 put us in a 6-30 hole. At 152 Jaden Quinones had a back and forth match giving up both takedowns and back points before recovering in the second period to pin his opponent, 12-30. Team Captain Nick Chittendon spent little time pinning his man at 1:32 in the first period, 18-30. New Wrestler Joe Schoeffel also gave the team a quick pin at :44 sec, 24-30. We dropped our final match at 190, 24-36. At 215 Matt Goebel went down 9-2 nearly getting pinned himself, before rolling his opponent and pinning him with only :24 sec. left in the match, 30-36. We picked up a final forfeit at 285 for a final score of 36-36 at the end of wrestling. And as I described sadly, we ended up losing on criteria 36-37. Very proud of a hard fought match from our Varsity wrestlers.

BNL also had wins from our Girls and JV wrestlers. Vivienne Powers increased her record to 3-1 on the year winning a close match 8-5. After returning from being out sick, Nick Davis had his first match of the year getting a pin in the first period.

BNL Modified Wrestlers have their first matches of the year Friday at a Tamarac Modified Fun Day.

By strange coincidence, Watervliet lost their other match of the night 30-31 on criteria to Taconic Hills after being tied 30-30. -Coach Prather, Coach DeLuca and Coach Kluck
