New Lebanon CSD announces Class of 2015 Valedictorian and Salutatorian

The New Lebanon CSD is pleased to announce Lauren Stone as its Valedictorian and Haley Gubitz as its Salutatorian for the Class of 2015.

Lauren StoneValedictorian – Lauren Stone
Stone is the daughter of Jane and Thomas Stone of East Nassau. She has a weighted GPA of 101.07 percent, or a 4.0. Her coursework this year includes Advanced Placement Calculus; University English, Physics and Spanish V with dual credit through Columbia-Greene Community College and SUNY Oswego. She will graduate with a Regents Diploma with Honors and Advanced Designation.

Stone has been the recipient of several awards including the St. Michael’s College Book Award, Clarkson University High School Achievement Award, and the Elmira College Key presented by the Alumni of Elmira; all in 2014.

She is the editor-in-chief for the yearbook as well as for the school’s literary arts magazine committee.  She has been a member of the Travel Club for four years and has served as a class officer for two years. She has 13 consecutive years as a violin student at the Berkshire Music School. Stone is also a member of the National Honor Society.

As an active participant in her community, Stone has volunteered her time at the New Lebanon Library, completing various tasks including shelving and filing.

Stone will be attending St. Michael’s College in Colchester, VT in the fall. She will be a pre-med major.

Haley GubitzSalutatorian – Haley Gubitz
Gubitz is the daughter of Sally and William Gubitz of Canaan. She has a weighted GPA of 96.93 percent, or a 3.9. This year she is a Questar III BOCES New Visions student where she takes courses in Life Science, Public Health and Scientific Research at the SUNY Albany East Campus in Rensselaer with dual credits from the University at Albany and Russell Sage College. She also takes University Physics with dual credit through Columbia-Greene Community College. She will graduate with a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation.

Gubitz was the recipient of the University of Rochester George Eastman Young Leaders Award in 2014.

A well-rounded student, Gubitz has been a member of the Girls Varsity Soccer team for four years. She has been a member of the senior band and the jazz band for four years where she is currently president. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.

Also active in her community, Gubitz volunteers at a local food pantry, at lifeguard swim meets, as an elementary school soccer helper, and as a tutor.

Although currently undecided on where she will attend college, Gubitz plans on majoring in Biology/Pre-med.
